How to strengthen Team Agreements

Let’s discuss the benefits, and motives of team agreements, and what follows after it.

Having agreements is the best way to set boundaries and articulate the expected behavior. This helps to avoid uncomfortable communication where you are not sure whether to point it out or just ignore it. If trivial things are ignored for a long time, they might pile up and become a cause of unnecessary frustration or anxiety.

A simple example: there was an official policy that everyone who was coming to the office needed to book a desk. This was to be incorporated for multiple reasons, so people would know who was in the office and who was sitting next to whom in case of infection during the pandemic. Things are getting back to normal, but these desk booking norms are still in existence. Over time, the people team and the employees are getting back to normal and are ignorant about the fact that you must book a desk.

I usually attend the office once a week, and I encountered that for the second time, the desk I reserved was occupied by someone else. The person was busy working and there were many available desks, so I booked another desk and canceled the booking of the occupied desk. I also informed my colleagues of the same since we had booked a desk close to each other as we were expected to…
